Cause Related Marketing: a Win-Win-Win? ()

As I mentioned in my last post, people are always striving for something, something big and long-term. Sometimes it is some sort of self-actualization or self-expression, sometimes it is a general notion of success, and sometimes it is a mark or difference in this big, wide world. In the case of making a difference, one way to do so is to contribute voluntarily to an organization that is making a difference.

This may or may not be something you are in to, but I believe a majority of Americans are. In fact, charitable giving is very big business in our country, and probably growing in many other countries around the world. While much has been written about why people give, the underlying fact is that they do give, and want to give, and treasure opportunities to give. This is especially true in an economy where it is tougher than ever to give because everyone’s wallets are on a diet.

According to the article on Wikipedia, a mantra is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of “creating transformation”. That’s a powerful thing that I think everyone should have. And if you look, you may already have it for yourself. Take a moment, when it is quiet, to think about this.

Finding a mantra for you is a personal thing, and so I won’t go into it much here. What I wanted to talk about instead is how you use your mantra, in particularly in marketing. Because, if it is a powerful thing for an individual to know their mantra, it is a vastly important thing for a brand to know its mantra.

The phrase “see the forest for the trees” has been coined in marketing topics before. But in today’s online climate it is particularly apt. Internet marketing is a virtual forest of online channels (with over 72 million results on Google at the time of this post), but too many people concentrate on the individual strategies and forget the big picture. At its best, marketing is about coordination and consistency, not just creativity.
